Teachable Moments

by Pastors Stephen & LaCinda Bloomfield

Last week LaCinda and I spoke together for Mother’s Day about creating “Teachable Moments” with your kids, or anyone you are an influence to.

Kids are mirrors

Every moment can be an opportunity to help build the faith of those who are looking to us to guide them and help them make confident decisions and choices.  Even challenging moments of bad behavior, or how you face a crisis can be a teachable moment.  If we are fearful, worried, or depressed, our kids will automatically imitate those things.

Here are 3 keys we can use to teach our kids how to be courageous overcomers and champions, from our message.

 1) Teach your kids to trust God for themselves

Psalms 78:5-7  He commanded our ancestors to teach their children [God’s Word],  6 so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.  7 Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.

Rather than being negative, take every opportunity to impart faith and trust in God, point them to the Word, agree with them in faith that God is working it out.

2) Teach your kids to love God’s word everyday

Deuteronomy 6:4-7   Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

A mountain view, a person less fortunate than yourself, a great victory, or a hard lesson are all opportunities to point out God’s purposes at work.  God made the mountains, God loves the poor person, nothing is impossible with God, God’s grace is sufficient for us…

3) Our kids are our reflections

Galatians 5:22-23   But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Our influence is more “caught” than taught.  Are we displaying unconditional love, a peace-making attitude, patience, kindness, etc… Our kids are learning to handle life from us, so let’s be aware of how we are reacting in front of them.

This Week…

Join us for part two of “Teachable Moments”.  Don’t miss this powerful teaching for your family.

In a mixing bowl mix 5 eggs and 3 cups of milk and pour evenly over other all ingredients.

Commit to Pray

I Commit to Pray

By | Church Events, church-in-yuma-arizona, Food for thought, Outreach, Pastors, Syndicate, Uncategorized | No Comments

I Commit To Pray.

Champions come in many packages - some are moms and dads who sacrifice for their kids, some are students who standup for their faith to their peers and teachers, some go to the less fortunate and minister to their needs, some use their businesses to resource the kingdom of God so the local church can be a strong voice to our community and world.  For all of those we must commit to pray.  Others are Champions for Christ and heroes of the faith because they have had greatness thrust upon them, and have risen to the occasion in the face of terror and death.  They are the ones around the world who suffer the worst of human atrocities simply because they are Christians, and they desperately need you and I to say, “I Commit To Pray”.

This Sunday is the national day of prayer for the Persecuted Church – those brave Christians around the world who refuse to renounce their faith in Jesus Christ, often to the point of death or worse.  Champion Church is joining with icommittopray.com to keep these Champions of faith in prayer, and to hold them up before God as they face untold dangers and hardships.

“I Commit To Pray” is a connection point created by “The Voice of The Martyrs” (persecution.com) to tell the stories of these heroes of faith and to connect us, the ‘free’ church, to the reality of what our brothers and sisters in Christ experience everyday.

Hebrews 13:3 Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.

The war against Christianity is raging around the world, by ruthless and relentless wolves, and yet the message of love and forgiveness shines in the faces of Persecuted Champions. I strongly encourage you to add “I Commit To Pray” to your commonly visited sites, and receive their updates so you can do your part to hold up the hands of those paying a heavy cost for their faith.  Your connect group should take a suggested story from “I Commit To Pray” each week, and pray for them everyday.

Pastor Stephen and LaCinda Cut The Ribbon To Our New Parking Lot

Cutting The Ribbon

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

It was an amazing moment as we cut the ribbon on Sunday for the opening of the new miracle parking lot – dedicated to the unconditional love, grace, and hope that Jesus brings to all who receive Him.

In 2 Chronicles 2:4  Solomon said, “Now I am about to build a temple for the Name of the Lord my God and to dedicate it to him for burning fragrant incense before him.” The fragrant incense we offer God today is when His house is filled with people – full of praise, joy, laughter, unity, faith, and love.  The paving of our parking lot will allow us to reach many more people and fill His house with fragrant praise!

We dared to believe

We dared to believe God for the impossible – to have our parking lot done before the 2014 Pumpkin Patch.  When we made this declaration of faith a few months ago, there was no way it could be finished until next year, BUT GOD isn’t limited by our circumstances!  He opened miraculous doors and we are now moving into the greatest season we’ve seen yet.
Thank you to all our friends and partners who continue to stand behind the vision of God through Champion Church – you are true Kingdom Builders!

Love Uprising Movement!

By | Uncategorized | One Comment

The Love Uprising Movement has begun with a huge heart beat of LOVE!!

From the very beginning Champion Church has focused on being the hands, HEART and feet of Jesus and this month we’re shinning a light on it and giving you ways to explode with Gods love to our very hurting world!

The Love Uprising movement is an amazing opportunity for You to;
1. Renew your personal love and commitment to your Savior Jesus Christ.
2. Renew your love and commitment to His House in praying, serving and giving.
3. Be open and ready for God to show
you where and how His love is needed and it’s needed EVERYWHERE!!!

Here’s just a couple things happening for you and your children to be part of:

Over the next several weeks the Love Uprising will be delivering mounds of food to our local Food Bank.
We we’re so honored to have had Mike Ivers from the Yuma Community Food Bank come and thank us for all we do- He shared how on his first day of being at The Food Bank Tim Dunn, the producer of our Pumpkin Patch showed up with tons of pumpkins to bless those who needed them. Tim prayed for him and Mr. Ivers said, “I’ve felt connected to Champion Church from that day forward and I’ve always wanted to thank you for the pumpkins you bring to us each year!”

We’re launching our weekend lunch program for our students at Carver Elementary School who depend on the lunch program for weekday meals and we’ll now provide them with their weekend meals by partnering with the Power Pack Lunch Program.

You can bring in all food items this week- perishables, non perishables, lunch items, hygiene items, and baby diapers (very needed) along with baby food, cereals and wipes.

Be sure to pass out your Love Uprising Movement card to someone this week. It’s SO exciting to hear all that God is doing through you… You are legend status in our eyes, a true Champion to Gods heart… One who STANDS and fights for another!

Uprise on~
We “LOVE” you,
Pastors Stephen & LaCinda xox

We Are Paving The Way!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Hello Champion friends and family! I am so excited to be standing in the construction zone of our brand new parking lot!  This is the Pave The Way dream and it is happening right now.  If you’ve been in our services lately you’ve heard me talking about having the Champion Church Parking Lot paved and ready for the Pumpkin Patch in October.  When I began sharing that with you it was an impossible dream, BUT GOD specializes in the impossible!  We started praying and believing, and giving, and God miraculously opened doors for this dream to happen. We are paving the way!

During the Pumpkin Patch season, many thousands of people come to Champion to enjoy the wonderful family atmosphere, and spend time with each other in a safe and friendly environment.  It’s a treasured time for families and our community to come together.  Of course with that many people, comes all kinds of burdens and challenges they are dealing with, and when they get to Champion, our goal is to show them the unconditional love of Jesus.  The Pumpkin Patch has become one of the largest attended and most loved events in the city of Yuma, and we are blessed to be the hands, feet and heart of Jesus to our city.

NOW, thanks to the Pave The Way Partners, they will park on the new parking lot, and have a safe drop off zone for the children and families. Also there will be a new turning lane on Avenue 5E,  so that as people come in from either direction they’ll have a safe entrance to the property.

What a blessing! This is the time for us to celebrate and I am so blessed that you have participated as you have. With your prayers, faith, and support, it is getting done.  It’s an amazing day!

We still need everyone to give and continue Paving the Way

Champion Church: Pave the Way for the Parking Lot

Please continue standing with us and trusting God for all the provision to come in.  We are not there yet, and we need everyone to take part in this exciting vision for our church and community, and get it done!  If everyone gave even $20.00 every week extra, it would make a difference.

What age did you know?

By | Pastors, Uncategorized | No Comments

What age did you know you would serve serve the Lord and what were the circumstances?

Out of 22 questions that came in recently at our Sisterhood Christmas party, here’s number 6. (I’ll answer more over time)

My parents were attending a small Church that was very poor and the Pastor had no pulpit. My father offered to build him one and the Church was thrilled. For weeks my dad worked on creating the most beautiful pulpit. He measured his Pastor and built it for his height so his Bible would be perfectly placed to preach from. Read More

Christmas Lights and “Zip Ties”

By | church-in-yuma-arizona, Kids, Uncategorized, Womans | No Comments

tree 2013Hi!
I went to set up our Christmas tree the other day. It is a pre-lit tree and quite simple to assemble. I got it into place and plugged it in…….NOTHING HAPPENED!!!!! Where was the glow of the lights?? I checked all of the connections and tried again – still nothing.
It was at this moment that I knew there was a decision to make; do we try to re-light the tree (which meant cutting off each little tiny zip tie – of which there were several on every single branch) or do we simply get a new tree? After examining both avenues thoroughly, the decision was made in favor of a new tree.

The old tree was removed and the new one was purchased and then set into the older tree’s spot. when it was assembled and plugged in everything worked perfectly.

As I thought about all of this, I realized just how thankful I am that God doesn’t see the removal of the “zip ties” – things that seem to keep me tied up – as not worth the time of removing and repairing. I am so grateful that He will not throw me out – like I did with the tree – but repair and restore me when I have “dark spots”. Praise God!!!!

Ephesians 5:8 reminds us, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light.”

LaCinda's traditional Breakfast Casserole

Who I am grateful for

By | church-in-yuma-arizona, Pastors, Uncategorized | No Comments

Who are you grateful for? After sitting around the kitchen table where LaCinda prepared a beautiful breakfast casserole for Thanksgiving, I can’t help thinking about the people that give my life meaning and joy. Thanksgiving is a day that celebrates the goodness of God, and His provision of the things and people in our lives who have paved the way for us. So, here are a few of the people I am grateful for:

I am grateful for all those who have seen a need, even when none was mentioned.

I am grateful for my sons and daughter-in-law, Stetson & Cristina (and Asher my grandson!), and Sterling, who all bring me great pride and joy. I am especially grateful for LaCinda, whose beauty on the inside and outside, has filled my life with passion, love, excitement, and meaning. Her influence is far reaching because she builds her life around others.

I am truly grateful for you, and the many Champions like you, who have served, sacrificed, supported, and stayed in love with the vision that God so graciously breathed into our hearts – and continues to do so.

I am grateful for the leaders and staff of Champion Church, both paid and unpaid, who daily lay their lives down to make a difference. I am grateful for the “Dream Team” of people who make Champion happen, from the Welcoming Team to the Production Team, to the Admin Team, the Worship Team, the Little Champs Team, the Kids Studio Team, the Service Attendants Team, the Prayer Team, the Dance Team, the Starbucks Team, and the many ministry team leaders and team members that make Men’s ministry, Women’s ministry, Youth ministry, Connect group ministry, and kids ministry happen. I am especially grateful for the Outreach Teams who go into our city taking the love and hope of Jesus to those who need it the most.
I am grateful for the Setup and Outdoor Production Teams that make our citywide events happen each year.

I am grateful for every dollar given to build God’s house because although there is a sacrifice attached to every gift, there is also God’s Blessing attached to it as well.

“And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants

Who Paved The Way For You?

William Randolph Hearst

William Randolph Hearst – Paved The Way for Billy Graham

We stand on the shoulders of giants, who have paved the way, and made God-sized dreams possible.

I am so motivated to expand the kingdom of God and take new ground when I think about people like Billy Graham (Video: Billy Graham Paved The Way).  God put William Randolph Hearst  in one of Billy’s early meetings in Los Angeles, and being touched by the message, Mr Hearst who was the leading newspaper mogul in the country, decided to promote Billy Graham through his newspaper.  By the end of that crusade, 350,000 people had attended which was an unprecedented number in the 1950’s.  Over the past 60 yrs, Billy Read More
