Living a MARKED Life Series, Part 2

Ephesians 1:13

“…in Christ, God put his special Mark Of Ownership on you by giving you the Holy Spirit that he had promised.”

3 Ways God Marks Us For Ministry

  1. He Connects You To something bigger  Than Yourself

John 18:37

“For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

We were created to be part of something bigger than ourselves, a purpose, a cause, a call, a vision, a belief

  • We always respect someone who chooses to be part of a bigger cause (military)
  • We identify ourselves by our countries, our teams, our creeds, our church,
  • We know who someone is by the cause and the creed they live by

2 Corinthians 6:11-13 (MSG)

“Dear, dear Corinthians Champions!   I can’t tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life. We didn’t fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way. I’m speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively!”

Small lives are focused on conflicts, problems, fear, blame, and helplessness

  • Big thinkers talk about ideas
  • Average thinkers talk about events
  • Small thinkers talk about people

The church is God’s great “idea”
It’s His vision, His plan to change the world, starting right here.  (Change a life, change the world.)

Matthew 16:18

“Upon this Rock I will build my church and death itself will not have power over it.”

(The most important thing anyone can do is connect someone to Jesus’s plan for their lives.  That has eternal results, significance, meaning, and rewards)

  1. He Asks You To Make a Difference

Isaiah 58:6-9 (MSG)

“This is the kind of fast day I’m after: to break the chains of injustice, get rid of exploitation in the workplace, free the oppressed, cancel debts.

What I’m interested in seeing you do is: sharing your food with the hungry, inviting the homeless poor into your homes, putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad, being available to your own families.

Do this and the lights will turn on, and your lives will turn around at once.  Your righteousness will pave your way.  The God of glory will secure your passage.  Then when you pray, God will answer.  You’ll call out for help and I’ll say, ‘Here I am.’”

1 Peter 4:10

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

  1. He Has Shaped You For Service

Romans 8:29-30 (MSG)

“God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son.”

Ephesians 2:10

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Galatians 1:15 (GN)

“God, in his grace, chose me even before I was born, and called me to serve him.”

Ephesians 4:11-12 (GW)

“He also gave apostles, prophets, missionaries, as well as pastors and teachers as gifts to his church.  Their purpose is to prepare God’s people to serve and to build up the body of Christ.”
