“Making Champions For Christ”

The Coach Message Series, Part One

  • Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Proverbs 4:7
  • For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6 (NKJV)

God’s Word is His Wisdom to us, to challenge us to live out His purpose for our lives, to overcome the obstacles that hinder us, and through His Spirit, to run the race set before us.

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.   Hebrews 12:1-3 (NKJV)

4 Challenges from God’s Word to Coach You to Greatness

1. You cannot succeed at anything if you are separated from the vine

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.  John 15:1-8 (NIV)

2. Without unconditional love that produces forgiveness, you will be weighed down by the transgressions of others, and unable to rise to your potential

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.  1 Cor 13:4-8 NIV

Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.  And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.  “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.  But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.  Matthew 6:9-14 NLT

3. You will never rise any higher than your faith in God’s plan for your life

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.  Hebrews 11:6 NLT

4. Comparing yourself to others is the kryptonite to your creativity, your accomplishments, and your personal best.

We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.  2 Corinthians 10:12 (NIV)

CHAMPIONS DEVOTED

God has a fully developed destiny and purpose for you that includes you being so empowered with spiritual strength that you can defeat the enemies that have plagued you and stolen your joy and passion for life.  He has already given you the tools you need to rise up take back your family [that the enemy would love to divide], your faith [that has been crushed under the circumstances of life], your future [that looks impossible to you], your financial resources and opportunities [that seem to run through your fingers].

The challenge is we are often so DISTRACTED by dealing with life that we forget to pick up the tools and weapons we have available to us, and continue to battle anyway.  How crazy is that, yet at the time it, seems the only way to continue on.  We’re like the guy who’s forgotten to stop and sharpen his axe, and can’t understand why cutting down the trees is so hard.

Let me give you 3 steps you can start today that will help you win the battle and fully reach the destiny God has for your life.

  1.  Set a goal to become a Fully DEVOTED Champion For Christ.
    • That means you know you still have a ways to go before you have conquered the enemies of your life, but you are determined to set Jesus as your role model.  Following Jesus doesn’t mean trailing behind Him from a distance, it means BECOMING LIKE HIM.
    • Being a Champion means you STAND AND FIGHT for someone.  We Champion the cause of Christ! — Stand for Him, Fight to enforce what He has won for us, and Act like Him [and for Him] as we face the giants of our life.
  2. Get Practical and Intentional about the WORD…
    • FAITH comes by hearing the Word (ROM 10:17).  Starting today, begin a bible reading plan.  Make sure it is interesting and engaging to you, and short [at first].
    • I recommend you go to bible.com and download the You Version bible app for your pc or mobile. Go to: PLANS, choose: DISCOVER.  Go to: TOPICAL, then choose: UNCOVER THE WORD.  Then choose a heading that applies to you and begin the devotional.  Start with the short 4-7 day studies.
  3. Remember what the Bible Is
    1. John 1:1,14 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” Jesus is the Living Word.  Luke 24:27  says,  “Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”  Moses was a picture of Jesus, saving us from bondage,  Jesus was the Rock that followed the Israelites in the wilderness and the Bread that rained down from heaven every day to feed them, He empowers us with His Spirit and the Word to reign in life just as they did in the Promise Land, taking ground, defeating giants, and conquering the enemy.

I Commit To Pray For Persecuted Christians

“I commit to pray for persecuted Christians” is a campaign and commitment to stand with the unsung Champion Christians of our time who are silently, yet bravely living out their Christianity in the face of oppression, torture, and death.

Champions come in many packages. Some are moms and dads who sacrifice for their kids, some are students who standup for their faith to their peers and teachers, some go to the less fortunate and minister to their needs, some use their businesses to resource the kingdom of God so the local church can be a strong voice to our community and world. For all of those we must commit to pray.

Others are Champions for Christ and heroes of the faith because they live under horrendous religious oppression, and have had no choice but to rise to the occasion in the face of terror and death.  They are the ones around the world who suffer the worst of human atrocities simply because they are Christians, and they desperately need you and I to say, “I Commit To Pray”.

Everyday, include these brave Christians in your prayers that they continue to have the supernatural strength to refuse to renounce their faith in Jesus Christ, even to the point of death or worse.  Pray for miracles of salvation for their captors and persecutors, and pray for the battle to be won through Jesus Christ.

Champion Church is joining with icommittopray.com to keep these Champions of faith in prayer, and to hold them up before God as they face untold dangers and hardships.

“I Commit To Pray” is a connection point created by “The Voice of The Martyrs” (persecution.com) to tell the stories of these heroes of faith and to connect us, the ‘free’ church, to the reality of what our brothers and sisters in Christ experience everyday.

Hebrews 13:3 Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.

The war against Christianity is raging both here and around the world, by ruthless and relentless wolves, and yet the message of love and forgiveness shines in the faces of Persecuted Champions. I strongly encourage you to add “I Commit To Pray” to your commonly visited sites, and receive their updates so you can do your part to hold up the hands of those paying a heavy cost for their faith. Your connect group should take a suggested story from “I Commit To Pray” each week, and pray for them everyday.
